Step out of Exit 11 at Akasaka-mitsuke Station, walk for about 5 seconds, and the destination has already arrived. Rising straight into the sky is The Prudential Tower, and Anytime Fitness occupies its 2nd floor. Few gyms in Tokyo can claim a shorter walk from the ticket gates.
A gym inside a premium office tower might suggest a quiet, polished space. The reality on a Sunday afternoon was something else entirely: plates clanking along a long, narrow floor, and groups of lifters cheering each other on as they took turns under the bar. The base of the tower turned out to be far livelier than expected.
There is one more distinction worth noting. The monthly fee here is 11,000 yen. When the gym opened in January 2025, it was reported as the most expensive Anytime Fitness in Japan, and it remains at the top of the brand’s national price range.

Access
Exit 11 opens directly onto the forecourt of the tower. The official walking time is 1 minute, but in practice it is closer to 5 seconds, making this one of the most accessible stores on the pilgrimage so far. Even on a rainy day, an umbrella is barely necessary.
One tip: the weekend and holiday entrance blends into the glass facade and can be a little hard to find. A small sign beside the door is the marker to look for.
Once inside, take the stairs up. A large poster on the wall points the way to the 2nd floor.
At the far end of the corridor, a door framed in blue light marks the entrance.
Atmosphere and Facilities
To the left of the entrance are the vending machine, restrooms, showers, and protein server, all in sufficient numbers for a smooth post-workout routine.
The training floor is long and narrow, stretching straight toward the back of the building. The whole room can be taken in at a glance, although the aisles are on the tight side as a result.
Cardio machines line the window side, where large panes of glass let in plenty of daylight. There is no skyline view from the 2nd floor, but glimpses of greenery outside make the treadmills a pleasant place to warm up.
The opposite side holds weight-stack machines focused on the lower body. The real highlight, however, is the plate-loaded section, which offers a good variety of machines, including black Hammer Strength units by the window.
There are 3 adjustable benches, placed very close to the dumbbell rack. Less walking between sets is convenient, though the space can feel cramped when the floor is busy.
Smith machines and power racks total 4, a solid number for a gym in the middle of central Tokyo.
Toward the back is a stretching area with a colorful slatted ceiling and a large AF logo on the wall, an easy spot for a photo.
The vending machine also sells black sports towels embroidered with “TOKYO”. These are limited-edition items sold only at selected stores, useful for anyone who forgot a towel and a fitting souvenir of the visit.
Crowd Levels
On a Sunday at midday, the gym was reasonably busy, and all 3 benches were in use.
Groups training together stood out, encouraging each other and rotating through sets. The energy on the floor is good, but when several groups share a long, narrow room, the aisles become even tighter.
On weekdays, the thousands of people working in the offices above are likely to add to the numbers, so certain hours may be crowded. Choosing off-peak times is recommended. The steady turnout suggests that membership here carries a certain prestige of its own.
Surrounding Area
Beside the tower is a tree-shaded plaza where café terraces catch the weekend sunlight, a good place for a break before or after training.
A short walk away is Sanno Hie Shrine, close enough to visit on the way home from the gym.
At the top of the stone steps stands the vermilion main hall. Turn around, and a glass high-rise appears beyond its roof, with shrine and skyscraper sharing the same blue sky in a scene that is unmistakably Akasaka.
Deeper in the grounds, a tunnel of torii gates leads up the steps to Sanno Inari Shrine. The vermilion pillars continue all the way to the top, making for an ideal cool-down walk.
The Akasaka store is also about 10 minutes away on foot, so the area offers 2 Anytime Fitness locations to choose from depending on the day.
Overall Review
At 5 seconds from the station exit, access could hardly be better.
The main drawback is the long, narrow layout. The aisles are tight and the dumbbells sit close to the benches, so peak hours can feel cramped. Given the prime location, this is an understandable trade-off.
The plate-loaded machines offer a good variety, and Hammer Strength equipment is on hand, giving the store a well-rounded lineup by central Tokyo standards.
Above all, the atmosphere is far more energetic than the polished office tower suggests. The regulars at the foot of the glass tower are lifting with remarkable vitality.
With the highest monthly fee in the network, this is not a store to choose for value. For people working nearby, though, it is an excellent training base. Visitors coming from farther away can pair it with Hie Shrine and its torii gate tunnel for a rewarding day out.
The pilgrimage continues.
