Anytime Fitness Shinnakano Review|A Dusty Basement, but a Riverside Walk Home

店舗レビュー

Three minutes on foot from Shin-Nakano Station on the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line.

The gym is in the basement and takes some navigation to locate — signage is not generous.

No water server, a compact floor, three benches, and four Smith machines and power racks operating on a restaurant-style queue. Waits are possible during busy periods. Mobile signal is weak underground. Dust was visible in the air during the visit, and the overall cleanliness fell below the standard of most locations on this pilgrimage. After training, the path along Zenpukuji River offers a genuinely pleasant walk — one of the better post-gym routes in this part of the city. The surrounding neighborhood left a strong impression despite the gym itself.

A difficult gym to recommend on its own merits. The area around it is worth the trip regardless.

Facilities

Private showers, a private changing room, Wi-Fi, and a personal trainer are all available. Bicycle parking, an AED, contracted lockers with availability, and free access for high school students round out the offering.

There’s no water server, no body composition scale, and no car parking. Being underground, the Wi-Fi signal here also wasn’t great.

Access

A 3-minute walk from Shin-Nakano Station on the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line. Being located in the basement, though, makes the gym a bit tricky to find on a first visit.

Atmosphere and Equipment

Likely owing to its basement location, the interior felt narrow and lacked breathing room. Three adjustable benches and four power rack/Smith machines make up the core equipment, with a take-a-number, restaurant-style system for waiting.

The gym was reasonably busy during the visit, with some chance of waiting for equipment. Dust was visible drifting in the air on the floor, a genuine concern on the cleanliness front. Combined with the poor Wi-Fi signal, the facilities here come with a fair number of honest drawbacks.

Crowding

Busy enough that the take-a-number system saw some use, with a real chance of waiting depending on the time of visit.

Surrounding Area

The walk home from Shin-Nakano Station runs along the Zenpukuji River, a pleasant change of pace after a workout. The neighborhood itself has an appealing, settled feel, the kind of place that makes you consider actually living there.

Overall Review

Underground, cramped, dusty, and with a weak Wi-Fi signal, this gym comes with genuine drawbacks on the facilities and cleanliness front. On the other hand, the chance to walk along the Zenpukuji River afterward adds something worth having made the trip for.

The gym itself doesn’t score well, but Shinnakano as a neighborhood has real charm. A dusty basement gym, followed by a riverside walk, is probably the most honest way to describe this one.

The pilgrimage continues.
