Anytime Fitness Odawara Junreikaido Review | A Name for Pilgrims, a Town for Pilgrims

14 minutes on foot from Kozu Station, the smell of the sea grows stronger with every block. That’s when Odawara Junreikaido comes into view. It’s a bit of a walk, but by the time you arrive, the name earns its keep.

The building used to be a family restaurant, and the gabled roofline still hints at it. Single floor, high ceilings, a few stylish objects scattered around. Maybe it’s the proximity to the coast, but the place feels open. Could be my imagination.

Access

Atmosphere and Equipment

Lockers and showers on the right as you walk in, training floor on the left. Free weights on the right side of the floor, weight-stack and plate-loaded machines on the left. The atmosphere reminds me of Nishi-Kokubunji.

1 Smith machine, 2 power racks. 2 adjustable benches, 1 flat bench. Plate-loaded machines at a gym this size is a pleasant surprise. The benches are the weak point, though — the layout makes for an awkward path to the dumbbells, and having only 1 flat bench limits what you can do.

The floor isn’t as large as the suburban Saitama locations, but there’s enough space that it never feels cramped. High ceilings and a handful of design touches add to that open feeling.

Near the entrance, a glass case caught my eye — prizes for a LINE shop-card program. Nintendo Switch Sports and a massage gun at the top, then SAVAS protein, Pokari Sweat, energy drinks, skincare, even a lifting strap. Whoever stocked it knows what trainees actually want. Categories like “muscle gain rate” and “body fat reduction rate” are printed above the shelves — a small, well-thought-out nudge to keep members coming back.

Crowd Levels

Visited on a weekday afternoon. Moderately busy — a steady rotation of people through the free weight area, not empty by any measure. Mostly regulars, and the staff’s rapport with them felt easy and familiar.

Surrounding Area

A short walk from the gym takes you to the coast — the biggest draw of this location. The sidewalk there is lined with flower beds, mountains visible in the distance. Nothing flashy, just quiet and pleasant.

It was a clear day, and the walk along the coast was perfect. A pebble beach rather than sand, a small breakwater visible where the waves break. Sandwich and coffee for lunch on the beach. A good afternoon. Made me want to live in a town by the sea.

True to its name, “Junreikaido” — Pilgrimage Road — this gym sits right on the road. Fitting, for this pilgrimage.

Overall Review

On its own, the gym isn’t a standout Pilgrimage Class location. The plate-loaded machine and the high ceilings are a plus, but the bench layout still needs work.

Factor in the charm of this seaside town, though, and it’s worth the trip. Hit the gym, walk the coast, grab a coffee. Not many locations let you build a day like that.
