Step off the train at Shimokitazawa and the marquees take over. Theater signs turn up everywhere, tucked between vintage shops and live houses, hinting at a neighborhood built for wandering.
A few minutes into that energy, a stairway leads up to the second floor of a building, where Anytime Fitness Shimokitazawa keeps a quiet profile just off the main strip.

Access
A 4-minute walk from Shimokitazawa Station. The ticket gates open straight into the bustle.

A stairway climbs to the second floor. The ground floor holds a separate tenant, and an elevator is also available. With each step up, the street noise fades a little further behind.

Inside the Gym
Just past the door sits a small baggage locker area, a touch tight. The restroom and shower are similarly compact. A free water server stands nearby, lending an oddly urban polish to the space.

A stretching area sits to the left, with 4 mats laid out. The training floor leans on weight-stack machines, with a handful of plate-loaded units filling in the gaps. 3 adjustable benches and what appears to be 1 shoulder-press bench round out the free weight area, alongside 3 Smith machines and power racks.
Enough hardware for a full-body session, though space between stations stays tight.
Crowd Levels
Even on a Saturday morning, the floor stayed steadily populated. Lockers sat nearly full, with men in their 20s to 40s making up most of the crowd — serious lifters were the exception rather than the rule. The atmosphere recalled Anytime Fitness Iogi.
Waits never quite formed, but someone was always working nearby. Given the station’s proximity and the area’s high share of single-person households, certain hours likely bring real density.
Neighborhood
Shimokitazawa’s real character shows itself once outside the gym. Theater marquees appear at nearly every turn — a concentration of cinemas unlike most other neighborhoods on this pilgrimage.

The streets stay lively throughout, the kind of energy that would take a while to grow tired of. Most faces skew toward their 20s — a town better suited to a slightly younger resident.
Overall
Machines fill a tight footprint with clear intent, without the breathing room of a suburban Anytime location. Still, weighed against the convenience of the station and the range of equipment on offer, it lands well within acceptable territory. This is a location worth visiting for the neighborhood as much as the workout.
The walk back leads toward an orthopedic clinic in Shindaita — shots for both wrists and a shoulder, a quiet coda to the session.
