A Sunday afternoon in Kamishakujii.
Stepping out of the ticket gates, a Seiyu supermarket sign catches the eye immediately. A supermarket right at the station changes the quality of daily life. Everything within reach, at prices that make sense. With that thought still lingering, a one-minute walk from the South Exit leads straight to Anytime Fitness Kamishakujii.
The first impression from outside was of a tiny store. All that showed on the 1st floor was what looked like an entrance to a toilet and shower. The glass gave away little about what lay beyond. Enough pilgrimages in, stores like this keep turning up, ones that resist judgment from the entrance alone. This was another.
The stairs led up. The moment the 2nd floor came into view, the impression changed completely.

Access
1 minute from the South Exit of Kamishakujii Station. Out through the ticket gates, down a short flight of stairs, and the store is already there. This isn’t just close to the station, it practically is the station.
On the Seibu Shinjuku Line especially, the walk from station to gym is often part of the experience itself. Here, that part barely exists. Heavy bags, bad weather, none of it changes the calculation. It’s a distance that never asks for a second thought.

Interior and Equipment
The first impression stepping inside was of a tiny store. The 1st floor holds only cardio machines, a toilet, and a shower, and expectations dropped accordingly.
What stood out was the sheer number of toilets and showers. A large share of the 1st floor’s footprint goes to this area alone. The reason wasn’t obvious at first, but it became clear later.
Up the stairs to the 2nd floor.
The ceiling runs high, making the space feel larger than its actual footprint. Right at the top of the stairs sits a stretching area, no mats laid down, just open floor for shoes-on or barefoot stretching.
Beyond that, weight stack machines line the floor. Further back, a plate-loaded machine and free weight area opens up.
Plate-loaded machines packed wall to wall is the kind of sight that lifts the mood before a single rep. The layout alone signals how serious this store is.
On the back wall, a Silver Plate plaque hangs in full view.
Hammer Strength Silver Plate Certified Store

Hammer Strength Official Training Center, Silver Plate certified. Certification requires 15 or more combined units of Hammer Strength plate-loaded, ground-base, and HD Elite rack machines.
As a Silver Plate store, the equipment lineup holds up. The floor itself isn’t especially large, so open space runs thinner than at bigger branches, but it stops well short of cramped. Windows are few, yet the lighting is placed well, pulling the space together into something sharper than expected.
Three adjustable benches, a small addition that quietly cuts down wait times in the free weight area.
Dumbbells split across two locations, one on the left, one along the back wall. The flow works. It reads as a deliberate effort to keep members from crossing paths. Concentrate dumbbells in a single spot and collisions multiply during busy hours; here, that risk stays low.
Five Smith machines and power racks, more than enough for a store this size.
And the reason the 1st floor’s toilet and shower area ran so large finally clicked upon reaching the 2nd floor. That area alone eats up nearly half the 1st floor. Given the location right by the station, plenty of residents likely rely on this gym, and for anyone showering here after work before heading home, the setup earns its keep.
Crowd Levels
The visit landed on a Sunday afternoon, typically one of the busier windows. People were around, but nothing close to crowded. No wait for machines, no friction in training.
The dumbbell area’s good flow helps here too, even with more people around, the space never tightens up.
One thing worth flagging: against this many machines, the number of sanitizing wipe stations felt a little thin. Given how well-equipped the store is otherwise, this is one detail worth improving.
Silver Plate certified stores tend to draw a more serious crowd, and this one was no exception. Plenty of members were quietly stacking plates in the free weight area, and a certain intensity hung in the air. Still, none of it read as intimidating or the kind of atmosphere that would make a beginner shrink back. If anything, it’s an atmosphere serious lifters would feel right at home in.
Surrounding Area
A Seiyu supermarket sits right at the station. That alone seems to raise the quality of daily life here. Everything within reach, at reasonable prices. Fitting in a quick errand before or after a workout matters more than it sounds like it should.
Kamishakujii Station itself runs compact and easy to navigate. Sitting right outside the South Exit makes this an excellent location on the ease-of-access scale. It has the feel of a gym folded into daily life, a stop on the way home from work, an extension of a grocery run.

Overall Review
A hidden gem tucked into a shopping street would be a fair way to describe this store.
A Silver Plate certified plate-loaded area, a well-planned dumbbell layout, one minute from the station, any single one of these would justify Pilgrimage Class status on its own.
The Pilgrimage Class call was a genuine toss-up. Judged on the 1st floor alone, this store would have scored lower without question. The gap between what the entrance suggests and the seriousness that reveals itself on the 2nd floor is, in itself, part of what makes this store worth writing about.
In the end, it landed at a score of 10, a store worth recommending without hesitation to anyone looking for a gym close to the station. That said, the higher concentration of serious lifters that comes with Silver Plate certification won’t suit everyone. For those training seriously, it’s a plus. For those hoping to break a light, quiet sweat, it might take some getting used to.
