The middle day of a three-day weekend, early on a Sunday afternoon. Stepping off the Tozai Line at Nishi-kasai, the first thing in view is a single large tree spreading over the station plaza. A 3-minute walk past it leads to a building lined with ornate iron window grilles, and on its 2nd and 3rd floors sits Anytime Fitness Nishikasai.
Inside, the gym was calm. Only a handful of members were training, and no machine required a wait. And on the 3rd floor, after more than 100 locations visited on this pilgrimage, stood a machine never seen at any of them before.

Access
The gym is a 3-minute walk from Nishi-kasai Station on the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line, which runs directly to Otemachi and Nihombashi in central Tokyo. The station plaza is marked by a large tree at its center, an easy landmark for anyone arriving for the first time.
The entrance is through the Matsuoka Nishikasai Building. The building directory lists the gym on the 2nd floor, and a white spiral staircase beside the entrance serves as a clear landmark.
Atmosphere and Equipment
The gym spans 2 floors, each with a clear role. The 2nd floor is the cardio level: Matrix bikes line the windows and catch the afternoon light, alongside Precor treadmills and cross-trainers. A few selectorized machines are placed here as well, and the restroom and showers are on this floor. The space feels comfortably open.
An internal staircase with wood-grain steps connects the 2 floors, so there is no need to leave the gym to move between them.
The 3rd floor is the heart of the gym, and it is spacious. Selectorized machines fill the front of the room, with a generous number of plate-loaded machines mixed in. The variety is wide, yet nothing feels crowded; there is real breathing room between each station.
Toward the back are 5 Smith machines and power racks and 4 adjustable benches. The racks are well spaced, and the path to the dumbbells stays clear even when others are training. A plate-loaded hack squat is also available, a strong reason to plan a leg day here.
Against one wall stands the standout of the visit: an AbCoaster. Across more than 100 Anytime Fitness locations on this pilgrimage, this was the first one encountered. The user kneels on the seat, rests the elbows on the pads, and draws the knees upward so the seat glides along a curved steel rail, targeting the lower abdominals in particular. Whether it truly worked will be decided by how the abs feel the following morning.
The stretching area works on a lay-your-own-mat basis, with enough room for a full mobility routine. A cable machine sits nearby, so the space is not entirely private. Overall, the gym has a calm, composed atmosphere, and the black track lighting and grey walls lend it a quietly urban, polished feel.
Crowd Levels
On the middle Sunday of a three-day weekend, in the early afternoon, only a few members were training and there was no wait for any equipment. It is the kind of gym where the next exercise can be chosen freely, without planning around others.
Surroundings
Nishikasai is known as one of Tokyo’s main centers of the Indian community, sometimes called “Little India.” The neighborhood grew into this role from the late 1990s, when many Indian IT professionals settled here for its direct Tozai Line access to the financial districts. Indian restaurants and grocery stores are easy to find, and the gym itself has an international mix of members.
A community notice board near the gym was advertising Diwali Festival Nishikasai, the Indian festival of lights, now in its 27th year in the neighborhood.
A short walk from the station leads to tree-shaded footpaths running alongside a narrow, quiet waterway, a sharp contrast to the busy plaza.
Further on, a pedestrian bridge opens up to a wide sky, and a white arch bridge curves against the blue. It makes an easy, unhurried cool-down walk after training.
Overall Impression
Anytime Fitness Nishikasai offers 2 floors with genuine breathing room. The machine selection is broad, the racks and benches are not packed together, and even on a holiday afternoon there is no waiting for equipment. Add a rare AbCoaster, and the visit is a reminder that even after 100 locations, there are still new discoveries to be made. Combined with the character of Tokyo’s Little India just outside, it is a gym worth pairing with a walk through the neighborhood.
