Four minutes on foot from Nishi-Shinjuku Station, a blue sign stands out against the gray high-rises lining the main road. A gym in the middle of Tokyo’s business district conjures images of cramped, functional space. That assumption didn’t survive the door. This is a record of one afternoon pilgrimage, shared with the office workers who filled the floor.

Access
Take Exit 1 at Nishi-Shinjuku Station and walk straight along the main road. Four minutes later, the entrance appears on the ground floor of a building. From the moment you step out of the subway exit, high-rises close in around you — a distinctly downtown walk.

Atmosphere & Facilities
Facing the entrance sit the restroom and shower zone, quiet and orderly. The sight of a free water server brought a small sense of relief. To the left, the training area opens up — more spacious than a single ground floor in a Tokyo building has any right to be.
Tucked among the notices in the changing area, a black bag hung from a hook. HAMMER STRENGTH, in white letters. The first time this pilgrimage has come across one. Just a bag for carrying things around the club, nothing more — and yet, seeing an equipment maker’s name embedded in something so mundane held the eye for a moment longer than expected.

The free weight area holds 2 adjustable benches and 3 Smith machines / power racks. There’s no queue system, no waiting list — just an unspoken rule of taking what’s open. The spacing between machines is tight, and that density says something about the gym itself. The count isn’t generous, but it feels proportionate to the floor. Anyone hoping for a full-body session should build in a little extra time. The one shortfall: not quite enough sanitizing wipe stations for the number of machines.
Crowd Levels
Visiting on a weekday afternoon, the floor was busier than expected. Office workers using their lunch break to lift — men in their 30s and 40s, many carrying that particular look of people who take their fitness seriously. The changing area fills up accordingly. It echoed something seen at the Nihombashi Honcho location. Setting up in a business district seems to invite this exact rhythm of use.
The cardio area likely fills up too, depending on the hour. One man ran the treadmill still in his suit — a small, telling image of the city itself.
Neighborhood
The street-facing side is unmistakably urban. Step around to the back of the building, though, and the air shifts. Apartment blocks line a quiet lane, a small distance carved out from the high-rises of Nishi-Shinjuku.

The walk back led to Higashi-Nakano. It was raining. A sign for Kushikatsu Dengana caught the eye, and the choice was made without much thought — a bowl of nikusui udon.

The broth carried a mild, Kansai-style flavor. What stood out most was the okra — its texture, soaked in broth, paired unexpectedly well with both the pork shabu and the tomato. A bowl of noodles after a rainy walk through Nishi-Shinjuku and a workout behind it. Nothing flashy about it. But this, too, is part of what the pilgrimage is for.

Overall Impression
Despite the busy, ground-floor location on a main road, the floor holds more space than expected. The machine count isn’t abundant, but it’s balanced against the size of the room. The free weight area, on the other hand, runs crowded as a matter of course — anyone wanting a thorough, full-body session should time their visit carefully. The high volume of lunch-break users is very much part of what defines this particular gym.
Nothing here is flashy. But everything necessary is in place. A gym for the people who work nearby, folded quietly into the shape of a workday.
