Rain was falling over Shinjuku on the day of this visit. The nearest station is Higashi-Shinjuku, but the walk here began instead at Seibu-Shinjuku Station, about 10 minutes away on foot under an umbrella.
Past the rain-soaked streets of Kabukicho and a little removed from the business district, the store sits at the foot of a towering residential high-rise.
A purple frame and a softly glowing white “ANYTIME FITNESS” sign mark the entrance. Despite its central Shinjuku address, the doorway is set slightly back from the street, reached by an approach lined with trees.
Through the glass, the interior looks bright and calm, with an atmosphere closer to a hotel fitness room than a typical neighborhood gym.

Access
The nearest station is Higashi-Shinjuku, served by the Toei Oedo Line and the Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin Line. The store is a 3-minute walk from Exit A3.
On this visit, the route started from Seibu-Shinjuku Station instead, a walk of about 10 minutes.
Outside the station, Shinjuku was wet with rain. The route passes the giant Unicus Vision screens and crosses Yasukuni-dori Avenue.
Streets that fill with neon at night were quiet in the late-morning rain, with only the wet paving stones stretching straight ahead.
One appealing aspect of the Anytime Fitness stores in Shinjuku is how many stations they can be reached from. Higashi-Shinjuku, Seibu-Shinjuku, and Shinjuku-sanchome all work, so varying the route on each visit is part of the fun.
Interior and Equipment
A short walk inside leads to the lockers, showers, and restroom.
The shower heads in the private shower rooms have a noticeably premium feel, producing an unusually fine mist. It is a small detail, but it makes the post-workout rinse feel a step above the ordinary.
A free water dispenser is also available. Free dispensers seem to be relatively common at Anytime Fitness stores in central Tokyo.
The cardio area faces a row of large windows and is lined with PRECOR machines. Beyond the glass, rain-soaked greenery fills the view.
For a moment, it is easy to forget this is the middle of Shinjuku. The machines are not packed tightly together, and this area alone carries the composed atmosphere of a hotel gym.
The weight stack machines are placed near the center of the floor. The selection is enough for a full-body workout, though those looking to train hard primarily on machines may find it somewhat limited.
The free weight area has 3 adjustable benches. The dumbbell rack sits on the right side, so anyone using the leftmost bench faces a slightly longer trip to collect dumbbells. The benches are also fairly close together, which calls for some awareness of neighboring users during busy periods.
There are 3 Smith machines and power racks in total.
Crowd Levels
The gym was busy at the time of the visit, and the Smith machines and racks occasionally had a wait.
Overall, the space feels somewhat compact. During peak hours, workouts are likely to depend less on a fixed plan and more on adjusting the order of exercises to whatever equipment is free.
That said, this is Shinjuku. A central urban store where many people share a limited space will naturally see some congestion.
Surroundings
The store occupies the ground floor of the annex building of a residential tower, set a little apart from the bustle of Kabukicho and Shinjuku-sanchome. Trees surround the building, and greenery is visible from the windows. Members who cycle can use the bicycle parking behind the store.
On this visit, the proportion of international members seemed notably high. Whether this reflects the area or is particular to this store is unclear, but it stood out as one of the defining impressions of Shinjuku 6-chome.
Overall Impressions
In terms of equipment alone, many larger stores offer more. Yet the greenery beyond the large windows, the entrance set back from the street, and even the fine mist of the showers give this location a quietly refined character.
It offers a brief step away from the noise of central Tokyo: a calm Anytime Fitness in the heart of Shinjuku.
The pilgrimage continues.

After Training: A Stop at Dr. Stretch
After finishing my workout, I headed to Dr. Stretch in Mitaka.
I had them focus mainly on my left shoulder, which had been bothering me for a while, and gave it a thorough stretch.
Honestly, I wasn’t sure stretching alone could make that much of a difference, but by the time it was over, the pain in my shoulder had eased considerably.
Buying your own supporters and care products is one option, but spending money to have someone actually work on your body directly isn’t a bad one either.
Training at the gym, and taking care of your body.
If I want to keep this pilgrimage going for the long haul, maybe I need both.
If you’re curious, check out the official site for Dr. Stretch Mitaka.
