Anytime Fitness Nogata Review — A Gym Built Floor by Floor

A late Saturday morning on the Seibu Shinjuku Line. On weekends the line runs at an unhurried pace, and a seat stays free the whole way. It is a line that rewards anyone in no particular rush.

Four minutes on foot from Nogata Station, past a stretch of old-fashioned shopping streets, a narrow glass tower rises above the rooftops. From the basement to the third floor, the entire building belongs to Anytime Fitness. This is a dedicated, stand-alone gym building.

Access

The gym is a 4-minute walk from Nogata Station on the Seibu Shinjuku Line. Several shopping streets branch out from the station. From the north side, head west along Kitahara-dori and pass under the arch with the clock; the building appears shortly after.

Along the way stands a sign still announcing “Under Construction” and “Opening Autumn 2026,” even though the gym is already open. The street has not quite caught up with the calendar. The map on the sign promises the gym is only 200 m away, and the route is impossible to miss.

Atmosphere and Equipment

Rather than spreading outward, this gym stacks upward. Each floor has a single role, and a workout here means moving up and down the stairs to build the day’s session.

B1F: Cardio and functional training
1F: Staff office, changing rooms, restrooms, showers
2F: Weight-stack machines
3F: Free weights

The floors are linked by a wood-grain staircase, with soft lighting set beneath each step. The finish reflects the care of a newly built building.

B1F: Cardio and Functional

The basement floor is purple underfoot, with a large “AF” logo across one wall. HAMMER STRENGTH multi-stations stand in a quiet row.

There are 2 stretch poles here, and the Stretch Pole “Basic Seven” routine fits comfortably into the space. A cable machine sits close by, so its users feel near when it is in use, but there is enough room to lie back and stretch out fully.

1F: Showers and Restrooms

The restrooms and showers are compact, in keeping with the slim building’s efficient design. A free water server is available, but there are no vending machines, so it is best to pick up drinks on the way.

Next to the washbasin is a sink reserved for rinsing protein shakers, a thoughtful touch rarely seen at other locations.

2F: Machines

On the landing of the stairs up to 2F hangs a HAMMER STRENGTH plaque marking the gym as an official training center.

The second floor holds brand-new weight-stack machines, enough to work through the whole body on this floor alone.

2F. A row of new machines, shared in 20-minute turns.

Each machine carries a card with a 20-minute limit. Members write their start time before using a machine and their end time afterward. Filling it in each time takes a little effort, but it reflects how many people share this space; it is the arrangement that keeps a popular gym running smoothly. Building a session here becomes a small puzzle of spotting free machines and reshuffling the order of exercises.

3F: Free Weights

The top floor is for free weights: 5 Smith machines and power racks, 4 adjustable benches, and HAMMER STRENGTH dumbbells up to 50 kg.

The benches sit very close to the dumbbell rack, so collecting dumbbells often means passing someone. Members step aside for each other as they go.

Crowd Levels

On a Saturday just before noon, the building was busy, and the free-weight floor was crowded enough to call it packed. Groups training together gathered around the racks, and since the floor is not especially large, voices carry. On days meant for quiet focus, the atmosphere may feel a little lively.

The gym had only just opened, which suggests the neighborhood had been waiting for it. Those with flexible schedules may prefer to visit outside peak hours.

Surroundings

The Nogata Ekimae Shopping Street leads away from the station, and Kitahara-dori runs along the north side. Several streets with a Showa-era feel overlap here. On the day of the visit, the McDonald’s by the station was wrapped in renovation covers, with a reopening planned for October 30. Old and new sit side by side in this neighborhood.

Overall Impressions

A whole building devoted to Anytime Fitness, brand-new machines, a HAMMER STRENGTH plaque, and a dedicated shaker sink: each detail shows the care that went into this gym.

Building upward, however, leaves less room sideways. The tight path between benches and dumbbells, the compact washrooms, and the voices that carry across the floor are largely the flip side of a slim, vertical building.

For those who live or work nearby, or who can choose quieter hours, this gym can become a dependable everyday base.

The pilgrimage continues.
