Facilities & Atmosphere
Third floor of a commercial building in the middle of the shopping district — not the kind of location you’d expect to find generous floor space. But step inside and the gym opens up considerably.
With 4 benches and 4 Smith/rack stations, the free weights area is well-balanced and rarely contested. The InBody body composition scale is a notable addition — more precise than the standard scales found at most locations. The water server and MAG grip attachments round out a solid equipment lineup.
The machine brand is PRECOR and TORQUE — the same pairing as Tama Center. Smooth, well-maintained, and a step above the standard Life Fitness setup at many other locations.
Next door to the gym is a bouldering facility. For those who want to mix up their training, the combination is hard to beat.
How Busy Does It Get?
Manageable. Despite the central location, the gym doesn’t feel overcrowded. With 4 benches available and a well-distributed layout, waiting was not an issue during the visit.
The Surrounding Area
Machida feels like a smaller, quieter version of Tachikawa. The shopping area is lively without being overwhelming, and there are enough cafes and restaurants to make the post-workout stretch enjoyable. Notably fewer foreign tourists than central Tokyo — the atmosphere is relaxed and local.
On the way back, I considered walking all the way to Yokohama, but the distance turned out to be more than expected, and I ended up taking a bus partway. It was winter, and the cold didn’t help. The streets near the station had a small-scale Harajuku feel to them.
Overall
A shopping district building that hides a genuinely good gym on the third floor. InBody scale, bouldering next door, solid equipment, manageable crowds.
The gap between expectation and reality is what makes this place memorable.
